we lost one of the greats.

30 November 2010

christmas singles

...of The Killers that is. The new one came out today called "Boots"
plus all proceeds go to the (RED) campaign.

In honor, I shall post the videos for the four prior to this new one:

#1 A Great Big Sled
oh the first single. the magic, the glory. I still love this song, listen to it year round. fantastic.

#2 Don't Shoot Me Santa
probably the best single so far, and the video is just priceless. It's nice to have a comical xmas song once in a while (per esempio: grandma got run over by a reindeer...yeaaa)

#3 Joseph, Better You Than Me
elch, just elch. If I wanted to listen to a classic xmas song, I would, but don't try and make one. I fall asleep listening to it. In a bad way....

#4 ¡Happy Birthday Guadalupe!
listened, but never have had a proper, super listen. so it's still floaty to me. edit: I LOVE this, maybe being in london has made me miss the southwest? oh boy...

Would you say....

John Legend is pop and Maroon 5 has some R&B in some of their songs?

Is race still deciding what type of genre we expect a certain artist to be?

Does content determine what a genre is made of? why must we explain music in certain genres...

yes, there are major differences between music but in some way they all can overlap with minor similarities. Most songs have the basic structure. The ones I can think off of on the top of my head that don't are jazz and ambient types (GENRES!)

hmmmmm

11 October 2010

"this song must have been made in heaven..."

one of the comments is the title for this post. I can say no better about this song.

I truly like this album. Some of the songs are so spot on, and oh so good, including this one.

It's herrrrre

I'm not as excited as I would be, but I still had to have it the first day out and I was the first one to get it in my local record store (aka Target (Yea, I know, sucketh) because this city SUCKS, and tower, oh sweet tower records, is gone)

RANT: solo artist breaking away from the band?
you sing in the band, you sing solo.
you have a band, you have a band backing you up for solo

sooooo, why not use that band to help you record?
I see, I see, they DON'T want to help you, since it's your own little project, si?
it just seems weird

yes the regular band probably has input for the musical elements (WHICH IS GOOD)
But you want your own drums/guitar/bass (since you regularly control the synth anyway, so it's all yours to begin with (oh carl....))
aye carumbaaaa

I would like to thank the cool street fashion photographer, Mr Newton for posting this AWESOME lazy fuzzy goodness of a song.

Although I disagree with their band name, being obviously from california. We ALL know the best coast is the EAST.
and there's a clown, albeit it's like ronald mcdonald, who is still MCCREEPS! no clowns. no.

03 August 2010

goody two shoes (sexy) pop music

ok pop songs are slightly cheesy, everyone should love them (secretly OR publicly, your choice)

I saw the new Maroon 5 music video for their new single, "Misery" hot damn, SEXY and yet truthful lyrics about stupid significant others (OR friends...) that are lame and don't reply to things....
"Why won't you answer me?
Your silence is slowly killing me"

ohhh good guitar hooks, subtle bass lines that draw you in and blasts you during the chorus, simple drums...
ok just listened to "Makes Me Wonder" and the guitar riffs are VERY similar... hmmm

Adam Levine looks like a more sexy, player full-o-swagger J-Schwartz (that's jason schwartzman to all yous) only in this video though.
(and the girl's style is hot, hairstyle is a little over played, but they probably filmed it when it was just starting to peak anywayyyy)

I will confess that I despised Maroon 5 at the beginning of their career (I am not a super huge obsessive fan, but I dig them. I don't have their second album however but have some gathered singles and may purchase the rest of the album later this week...) "Harder To Breathe" was played on the radio WAY WAY WAY WAY TOOOOO MUCH, as all 'new hot singles' are and it was death. I was with my god-family (is that right?) and my god-sister and she had their CD and played it in the car and I found to like them. I love their first CD. Now I may just LOVE their new CD but with just the single to munch off of, I don't know how far my love will last without some more poppy, older Levine and poppy drum kicks.

yes, it's stupid vevo. apologizes if there is an advert.

GIFT!

oh hellllllllllllls yes. I LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS
love the NaS I Can influence there (man, listened to that song a TON)

gone but not forgotten

What's Golden - Jurassic 5

forgot about this song until I went snooping around on the interwebs. classic. they've been around for ages, same type of genre as tribe, the genre known as awesome, and you know I LOVE tribe. exceeeept jurassic 5 are west coast. not a lover of west coast.
one of those dumb ass early 00's videos though too. oy

this song makes me want to put on my tims (which I did earlier today - holy crikeys I forgot how heavy they were) and rollll around my ol' hooood: COMPTON....road. ha

11 July 2010

HAHAHAHAHA

very unrelated, but so so hilarious

08 July 2010

Crossfire

that's what I think of

but this is good too...

I love this song. I love The Killers (oh so so so so so so so much)
video: ninjas... they really want brandon for some reason and charlize theron comes and kicks ninja ass bunches of times to save the boy brandon. and then he smiles at her.
its not a bad video, compared to, let's say, the disaster of the Spaceman vid (don't get me started...)

seeing the different contraptions b.flo was caught in though certainly was a laugh. (and the b.flo groupies I know are oogling him being tied up, sweaty, water thrown on him, etc. et ceteraaaaaa. I will not lie and say that first outfit of the cutie suspenders and the parted hair was adorable. maybe I just like the 1800's dr. quinn look)

good song. that's my input. I do NOT like that the UK gets the album released A FREAKIN WEEK ahead of the US, it's usually just the day before. ughhhhhhhhhhhhh. That's just asking for it to be leaked. seriously.

07 July 2010

more classics

side note: CROSSFIRE MUSIC VIDEO DEBUTS TOMORROW. oh b.flo....

QUESTION/High Fidelity

Q: Which musicians of the last two decades have had the most lasting impact on music as we know it today?
I stole that from LJ, quite subjective, of course. (btw can I go back to writing about subjective topics and having to do papers and such. organic chemistry is not for me. (side note: need it for grad school pre-reqs. boooo) GIVE ME ART HISTORY OR GIVE ME DEATH!!!)
A: coming later

and last night I watched high fidelity for the first time. THE FIRST TIME. why now?
maybe I should organize my music auto-biographical...
although I definitely DO NOT have as much of an extensive collection as him

"Did I listen to pop music because I was miserable? Or was I miserable because I listened to pop music?"

mm good goood GOOD GOOD movie. I swear everytime I watch a john cusack movie, I fall in love with him. then I forget about him, watch another one of his movies and fall back in love. ah john cusack.

edit: stop following me around High Fidelity!!!

I just watched it for what seemed like the fourth time this month. oh hulu, you make my love for john cusack exponentially grow.

07 June 2010

favorite book...quote

"Like most of the others, I was a seeker, a mover, a malcontent, and at times a stupid hell-raiser. I was never idle long enough to do much thinking, but I felt somehow that my instincts were right. I shared a vagrant optimism that some of us were making real progress, that we had taken an honest road, and that the best of us would inevitably make it over the top.
At the same time, I shared a dark suspicion that the life we were leading was a lost cause, that we were all actors, kidding ourselves along on a senseless odyssey. It was the tension between these two poles--a restless idealism on one hand and a sense of impending doom on the other--that kept me going."

Anthony Dominick Benedetto

ahhhh.
so awesome. he's stillllll got it.
He sang a crap load of songs for more than an hour.
he was bee-boppin' around the stage
HE'S EIGHTY-THREE YEARS OLD!!!!!

he did a little shimmy and said "i just got back from Brazil..." haha
he played Smile, that's all I care about. One of my first blogs was just the lyrics to that song.
I LOVE that song.
and about 3/4 through 'The Good Life' he stopped and dedicated it to lady gaga. haaa. big laugh from the crowd (who knew who she was)
I wasn't the youngest person there as there was a 12 year old girl sitting behind me. yesssss. but still, the average age was around 67. cool. Still sipped a strawberry daiquiri

my one issue. the freakin bass player and incredibly awesome drummer only got one shout out. ONE. the bloody piano player and guitar player (granted, still very good) got a shout out almost every freakin' song. Why must percussion be left out? If there was no percussion, there would be no song.
oy.

smile.

CD players

remember back in the day. you'd pop in your favorite cd and listen to it from beginning to end. If you were lucky, your cd player had a shuffle mode, which mine did. But you still listened to the cd in order of the song. such greatness.
I used to fall asleep to either Michelle Branch or Alicia Keys then in my gangster phase it was 50 cent. yea I fell asleep to that cd. When I came home from school I'd pop in Hot Fuss (then kaiser chiefs, the cribs, bloc party...ah my british invasion period...) and listen to that over and over while I did my homework. I should do that again. Except on my fancy-schmancy ipod that currently has 4732 songs on it. I'm building up a collection. I'm spotty in some areas.
Oh that Michelle Branch cd...one song came up on shuffle. still brings back memories. I played that OVER AND OVER AND OVER when I went to sleep. I still listen to Alicia Keys (of course, she's the best) so her music doesn't bring too much of a memory back since it is still ongoing.

I think I'm the only one under 30 that still buys cds. I love them. I need something tangible. Who doesn't love having a collection of cds around your room. I use them in my car all the time. My car is from 2004 (its sixth birthday is on labor day. aw. they grow up so fast...) so it's not one of those cool ones with built in mp3 player cords so the sound quality when I play my ipod isnt the greatest. Plus there's nothing better than popping in a cd and blasting it as you drive around.

back to cd players. I did see someone on the bus a while ago (I can't remember where. maybe tempe, maybe d.c.) who still had a cd player. Right now (and from forever on), its definitely worth it to buy an ipod, especially when you commute (playing solitaire on my ipod saved my life last summer!) I know some people can't afford one since the classic ipod style price hovers at $250. Although the size is increasing ENORMOUSLY. I got a new ipod two years ago (I believe, I had to get a new one because some cretin stole mine during class...wtf...anyway it was dying, the hold button was failing) The "new" ipod I got was 80 gb. 80 GB!! that's still insane. They don't even make that size anymore. I think (THINK) the lowest size is now 120 gb. or maybe 160. That's the size of my computer hard drive now! insaaaaane. If you have a computer with 160 gb you can no way fill up a 160 gb ipod, that's for sure.
how the hell did I get onto the topic of ipod size....
TANGENTTTTTTT

bottom line.
cd players are cute and memorable. It reminds me of being 13. aw.
awkward.
I remember taking road trips and having to decide which cds I would want for my journey. poor other cds that didn't get taken. I'd end up taking wayyyyy too many or not enough and be wanting to listen to certain music and crap not having the cd with me.

yea.

p.s. going to see TONY BENNETT tonight. <333333333
omgggggggggg tony bennetttttt

01 June 2010

typical

need to stop falling asleep with shuffle on my ipod.
I have a mix up of usher's caught up with dolly parton's jolene...

26 May 2010

weird things about greece.

1. they don't throw toilet paper in toilet. they put it in the trash. something to do with weak flush or something? very strange.

2. they eat everything with knife and fork. including fries. hmm...

3. the rooster is the chosen alarm clock. even after their 'siesta' the rooster crows. how it knows when do to it at 5 pm? no so.

4. since this is a music blog, mainly, the music is typical crazy euro. I was in the car with my friend and her boyfriend. one of the songs, no joke, had the lyrics "ooh la la ooh la la i like girls i like girls" with a guido, fist-pumping beat of course.

5. the time change was no big deal. but there is another time change i have just gotten used to (been here for about a week) is the time when they eat. so late. they go out at 9 to eat dinner. and have drinks at u.s. normal lunch time and sit for hours, smoking like chimneys and talking. aye. can't get used to the slow pace, no matter what. that's why i like london (except how everything closed up at 11...) bah. I need big cities. isle life not for me. although I can get used to laying out at the beach all day.

21 April 2010

oh boyzzzzz

hey hey hey

you wanna hear something funny??
DO YA???

welllll,
Pooney (formerly known as rooney, yea the band) is coming to my campus to preform a free show.
1. hahahahhahahhahahahha
2. I love how they wait until I no longer care about them and am about to graduate and leave forever
3. wow, they totally are not good anymore
4. I have every right to make that claim from being a former creeptastic fan.
5. and yess their name is now pooney cause they are POO.

6. oh yea, and matt left the band?? and obv tay has a new band
I THINK THAT'S A SIGN
7. no musical evolution, NONE.
craptastic voyage
"thaaats craptassstic!"

what should I do??
well OBVIOUSLY ...
I am going to get drunk, perhaps incredibly drunk, probably not since I do have bloody class the next day...
annnnnd yell slanderous things at them. mwahahaha
and yes, I'm bringing my gang members to help along with the drinking and slander

EDIT: oh yea, going drunk and being the person I hated so much at shows (the drunken crazy) yea that was me. it was GREATTTTTTTTTTTTT
it's not like anyone paid to see the show anyway so I technically could have stumbled upon the show drunk anyway. totally awesome
lovely photos we thought were a fantastic idea by erin (and sometimes me):
and they get more ridiculous as you go down.

I obviously can not have a good, non-ridiculous face in pictures, ever
